Assam: Under SOPD-G Scheme, Sex-Sorted Artificial Insemination of Cattle is Officially introduced in Dhubri

GUWAHATI: The State-Owned Priority Development (SOPD-G) scheme, an initiative of the Government of Assam, has been legally adopted in the Dhubri district to artificially breed cows using sex-sorted semen for superior bovine breeds.

According to reports, sex-sorted semen has lately been made available to cattle firm owners, particularly natural breeding interns, because it is unknown whether a calf will be born male or female.

However, artificial insemination (AI) was employed in this case to sort the sex of the semen and confirmed that the cow will give birth to a female calf, which will produce more milk in return and benefit the firm owners in the future.

Artificial insemination (AI) with sperm taken from a healthy breed of bulls allows all cows in the herd to be bred on the same day, eliminating the need to monitor for heat signs during the mating season.

Many cows are now bred using artificial insemination (AI) with sperm obtained from a good bull. This is a method of extending the benefits of an excellent bull, ensuring that heifers are bred to easy-calving bulls, or utilising the genetics of numerous outstanding sires without owning them.

Meanwhile, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the government has obtained 1.16 lakh sexed sorted semen in an effort to enhance the number of female calves and strengthen the dairy industry. According to CM Sarma, the state government has set an ambitious target of drastically increasing milk output by implementing tactics used by states such as Gujarat.

According to the Assam Chief Minister, the Mukhyamantri Swa Niyojan Yojana will see the government providing two lakh Assamese youths with financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each.

The state's economy would benefit from a greater emphasis on fisheries, dairy production, and animal husbandry. Modernization and infrastructure development will also be prioritized in the veterinary sector. CM Sarma flagged off 181 Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs), distributed sexed-sorted semen, and launched the Regional Artificial Insemination Training (RAIT) Institute and Cold Storage during a session in Guwahati.
