Silchar:A captivating documentary titled "Dharohar: The Resurrection" has been produced by Assam University in Silchar, focusing on the unique Sanskrit-speaking villages of Anipur Basti and Patiala Basti in Assam's Karimganj district. The film provides an intimate look into the daily lives of the villagers, who not only converse in Sanskrit but also embrace the ancient Sanatan culture. With a duration of 22 minutes, the documentary showcases the villagers' Vedic chantings and monthly yagyas, offering a glimpse into their rich traditions.

On June 6, 2023, the documentary was officially released, bringing attention to the importance of preserving and promoting these exceptional cultural practices. Prof Rajive Mohan Pant, the Vice Chancellor of Assam University, emphasized the significance of showcasing and safeguarding such traditions.

To celebrate the cultural heritage depicted in the film and provide the villagers with an opportunity to witness their own traditions on the big screen, a special screening was organized at Anipur Basti on June 9, 2023.

Dr Paromita Das, an Associate Professor at the Department of Mass Communication, played a pivotal role in bringing this captivating documentary to life. She wrote and directed the film, effectively capturing the essence of the rich cultural heritage of these Sanskrit-speaking villages. Assisting her were Kutub Uddin Ansari and Jyotish Dutta, who served as assistant directors, with Ansari also taking on the role of editor.

"Dharohar: The Resurrection" has been made widely accessible by being available for viewing on Assam University's official YouTube channel, Twitter handle, and Facebook pages. This approach aims to reach a broader audience who can appreciate the cultural significance and linguistic prowess of the Sanskrit-speaking communities in Karimganj.

The documentary sheds light on a lesser-known aspect of Indian culture, highlighting the resilience of these communities in preserving their linguistic heritage and ancient traditions. Assam University's film draws attention to the beauty and importance of cultural diversity and the need for its preservation.
