LAKHIMPUR: The Universal Brotherhood Day was observed at Lakhimpur College on Monday to mark the 130th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address of World Congress of Religion in Chicago.

A meeting was organized for that occasion by the Vivekananda Kendra Study Centre, Lakhimpur Commerce College, in association with the Vivekananda Kendra, North Lakhimpur. At the beginning of the meeting student Suneel Chetry recited the Omkara prayer followed by the explanation of the objective of the meeting by Dr. Harinee Patowary Das, coordinator of Vivekananda Kendra Study Centre, Lakhimpur Commerce College. Dr. Barnali Borah, the Nagar Pramukh of Vivekananda Kendra, North Lakhimpur delivered an introductory lecture on the centre and its objectives. Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College delivered the welcome address at the meeting. Dr. Bani Kanta Kowar, Vice-Principal (Academic) of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) attended the meeting as appointed speaker. In his speech Dr. Konwar talked about the importance of leading a spiritual life right from getting up from bed to the time of going to bed. He also stressed the need for kindness and mercy in achieving friendship.
