SILCHAR: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has in a memorandum submitted to Assam University demanded holding of annual examinations and attention to some important issues with critical imperatives involved for action. The unprecedented situation brought about by COVID-19 has impelled to consider about adopting measures in many fields including education. As the results of final year examinations bear great impact on the future of students and to withhold it for an uncertain period cannot but have deeper implication. Students have been put on tenterhooks regarding their higher studies, employment avenues and placements.

Moreover, the uncertainty looming large over their future is telling on them psychologically and a sort of depression is gripping them. As a responsible all India organisation of students, ABVP is for well thought out solution with far sight instead of rushing for a quick fix way out of the critical impasse. Moreover, this is not a localised issue but a national phenomenon. It is the considered opinion of the student body the decision on this matter has to be taken by the Central University in its wider perspectives in order to avoid any adverse impact on the students.

ABVP welcomes the state government's approach for holding examinations as per UGC guidelines. In this respect, it has advanced before the AU authorities a bunch of suggestions for conducting the final year semester examination by using the contactless modes instructing students to carry out project work, written assignment and essay type works, conducting online or telephonic viva voce and also a suitable combination of some of the above-mentioned methods and making an assessment of their previous performance records. ABVP thinks the suggestions given will best serve the interest of students and these parameters will also help in conducting examinations in a free and fair manner during this crisis period. This memorandum was signed by Rakesh Das, ABVP state secretary, Assam Branch.
