Assam: Verdict In 2014 AMCH Murder Case Expected Today
DIBRUGARH: The verdict in the sensational murder case of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) doctor Sarita Toshniwal, which shook the entire nation in 2014, is expected to be announced on Friday.
Sarita was discovered dead in the doctor's cabin of the department's acute care unit by a nurse at 8 a.m. on May 9, 2014. Her body was wrapped with a blanket and resting on the bed inside the cottage.
On the day of the murder, Dibrugarh police arrested Kero Mech, a department ward boy who allegedly confessed to the crime.
Mech is from Dibrugarh's Siringhola village. Mech also allegedly admitted that Dipmoni had asked him to kill Sarita on the night of April 24 while she was on night duty, but he was unable to do so.
Notably, the conspiracy to kill Sarita was organised a month ago by the doctor, Deepmoni Saikia, who was a second-year PG student in the obstetrics and gynecology department at AMCH and was carried out with the assistance of a ward boy, Keru Mech. Deepmoni and the deceased formerly worked in the same department.
“Deepmoni and Sarita had a cordial relationship. But they were not on good terms for the last few months. Deepmoni used to call Sarita on her mobile but she never responded. After being spurned by her, he decided to take revenge. He hatched a plan and sought the help of Kiru. He manipulated Kiru by promising that he would make his job permanent. He even threatened to fire him if he refuses,” the police stated after arresting the accused.
“On May 8, Deepmoni was allotted night duty along with Sarita, but he remained absent citing illness. Sarita was alone on duty. The ward boy and a nurse were also on duty. The next morning (May 9), Deepmoni and Kiru committed the crime after the on-duty nurse left,” the police added.
