‘Assam will be malaria-free by 2022’ says Kamrup district Malaria Officer Rituparna Rajkumar on World Malaria Day

Boko: “Assam will be a malaria-free State by 2022. Now in Assam, there are only four districts slightly infected from malaria and the districts are Udalguri, Kokrajhar, Chirang and Diphu,” said Rituparna Rajkumar, Kamrup district Malaria Officer on the occasion of World Malaria Day at Boko in Kamrup district on Thursday. He also said that the Health Department will distribute 50,000 medicated mosquito nets in Kamrup district during the month of July.

As per the Health Department, there were only 23 cases of malaria in 2018 and only 7 cases of malaria recorded in 2019 at Kamrup district.

On the occasion, Joint Director Dr. Syamanta Madhab Sarma, District Malaria Officer Rituparna Rajkumar, District programme Officer Sweta Singh and Sub Division Medical and Health Officer Mahitosh Banerjee took part in a programme at Boko High School. A group of artists from Chaygaon performed the famous Assamese traditional dance ‘Mohoho’ along with tree plantation by Golap Medhi, principal of the Boko High School and other officials of Boko PHC malaria department. At the end, a rally was taken out from Boko High School through Boko Girls’ High school and weekly market and back to the Boko High School.
