Assam: Within 24 hours, Japanese Encephalitis claims 2 lives in Nagaon
NAGAON: Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed the lives of two persons in the district till the time of filing this report, sources said.
Sources at District Health Services, Nagaon claimed that at least 13 persons were affected by JE across the district. One Taibur Islam, an 11-year old child of Rupahihat Gunabari village, died of JE on Monday while one Sofikul Islam hailing from Juria Dighaliati area died of JE on Sunday, sources said adding that Sofikul succumbed to the disease on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
Sources further said that another person named Pradeep Das hailing from Dhing Athgaon Chapori also reportedly died of JE a few days back while undergoing treatment.
Following the spread of JE in the district, the Nagaon district malaria department has initiated all possible precautionary measures like medication of mosquito nets, spraying smoke, collection of blood sample as well as awareness campaign across the district so that the disease can be controlled at the earliest before it becomes a menace in the district.
