Biswanath Chariali: Although the Education Department of Assam is working for the development of the educational institutions and introduced many developmental projects and facilities for the students as well as for the schools and colleges around the state but at the same time teachers of the Pushpalata Suwaroni Prathamik Vidyalaya, Biswanath has been educating students without getting salary for three years.
Deprived of salary, a teacher was allegedly forced to sell vegetables at the daily market in the evening as a source of earning for living.
Speaking to the Sentinelassam.com, Utpal Bora a teacher said, "Our condition is very miserable as we are not getting our salary at all it is very difficult for us to serve food in our plates. Our children's are also not getting proper facilities to study. At 9 am I came to the school and after school closed at 1 pm I set up my vegetable shop in the evening and sell vegetables in the daily market."
Another teacher of the school said that the students get mid-day meal, free books but they are not getting salaries and still, they continue teaching at the school.
Besides this, the condition of the school also can be seen worsen. The infrastructure of the school is very poor, the windows of the classroom are almost broken, and there is no proper arrangement of desk and benches for the students. The students have to study sitting on the floor.
There are a total of 75 students and 3 teachers in the school, who has been teaching
for the last 20 years.
The teachers requested Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to look at
the matter and to provide them with solutions to their problems as well as to
provide the students with better facilities.
The school was established in 1986. It was supposed to be provincialised in the year 2013, but did not happen so.
