Assam: Woman Dies After Consuming Poisonous Mushrooms

GUWAHATI: On Thursday, a woman reportedly perished at Merapani in the Golaghat region of Assam after eating deadly mushrooms.

The deceased, identified as Tarali Barman, her family, as well as four other local families, consumed the toxic mushrooms, which caused them to become ill on April 2.

They received emergency medical care and were taken right away to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). Tarali Barman, however, was unable to be saved as her condition worsened despite the medical team's best efforts. The other afflicted families, meanwhile, are currently in stable health but are being monitored at the hospital.

The police of the area have warned people not to eat any unfamiliar or unusual fruits or vegetables in light of the occurrence.

In the early hours of April 2, one individual in Assam's West Karbi Anglong district perished after eating a toxic mushroom. The incident was reported from West Karbi Anglong's Barmajan.

Mithu Amsung was the individual who passed away. Sources claim that Mithu's family members took the wild mushrooms from the hills' agricultural fields. The five-person family became ill that night after eating the mushrooms.

They were admitted at the Morigaon civil hospital. Unfortunately, while receiving therapy at the hospital, Mithu passed away.

On Thursday, the carcasses of three Himalayan vultures were found in a field in Chayygaon, Assam's Kamrup district. The vultures, according to sources, were discovered dead in a field close to the Nowamati hamlet in Chayygaon.

While the deaths of three vultures were confirmed, one of them is reportedly in serious condition. The vultures' deaths are thought to have been caused by poisoning, but the precise cause won't be known until after the post-mortem.

Forestry officials arrived on the scene in the interim to assess the situation. According to multiple stories, farmers frequently combine pesticides in the corpse of a goat or a cow in order to kill canines that pose a threat to livestock, but unintentionally poison vultures as a result.
