Assam: Woman Gets Abducted, Robbed By Miscreants in Car

GUWAHATI: Crimes against women are continuing unabated in the state. Incidents of abductions, rape and murder have become everyday happenings in Assam.

A recent incident has come to light where a woman was allegedly abducted, robbed and illegally detained before being dumped by the side of the road, miles from where she was initially picked up.

According to reports, the woman was allegedly abducted from a quiet road in Darrang district.

The incident is said to have taken place on Tuesday night when the middle-aged woman was reportedly waiting to board a bus near Dhula village in the district.

It was then that a group of three miscreants stopped at the spot and supposedly tricked the woman into getting in the car with them on the pretext of dropping her off at her destination, sources said.

Unaware of the danger she was getting into, the woman got inside the vehicle and they drove off. After travelling a small distance, the trio overwhelmed the woman by force and tied her up with a rope. The vehicle then went to an unknown destination where the woman was kept captive for a considerable amount of time.

Unaware of her surroundings and confused regarding their intentions, the woman was made to endure unimaginable trauma during this time. The miscreants then proceeded to rob her of her belongings, comprising all her jewellery, valuables and cash.

After the terrifying ordeal, the victim was dumped on the side of a desolate road by the assailants, which was far away from where she was first picked up. Fortunately for her, an auto rickshaw passing by spotted the woman lying by the side of the road and immediately informed the police.

The police promptly arrived on the scene and she was rescued from her ordeal. However, she was incoherent and unable to provide much information about her attackers.

She was later taken to Guwahati for medical attention after some minor injuries were detected on her body caused during the ordeal. Robbery is suspected to be the prime motive behind the abduction, as only her personal belongings and valuables were taken from her and she emerged physically unscathed from her harrowing experience.

It was also informed by sources that there were no signs of rape or sexual violence when doctors examined her.

While the victim’s injuries were not severe, her psychological state remains a concern as she endured a terrifying ordeal at the hands of unknown persons.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family members have lodged a complaint at Dhula police station and a manhunt is on to nab the robbers, police said.
