MANGALDAI: In a rather strange incident, a woman landed in a hospital after she was physically assaulted by a lawyer. The incident took place in the Mangaldai town of Assam.

According to sources, this incident took place in the premises of the office of the Bar Association of Mangaldai . An unnamed woman was talking with an advocate regarding a case that her son was involved in. While they were talking, another advocate came and slapped the woman.

Sources mentioned that the woman had approached the advocate regarding the case and had paid him his fees for the same, but when he was unable to get the expected results, the woman approached another advocate and settled the matter. The woman asked the advocate named Baharul Islam to return the advance, leading him to get enraged and attack the woman.

The woman was injured in the incident and was admited to the Mangaldai Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, local people have raised the question regarding such violent behaviour by the advocate and questioned that if they can engage in such activities on the premises of the office itself, then they can do anything in other places.

Previously, the Gauhati High Court Bar Association opposed the decision to shift the Gauhati High Court and other courts from their present location to a proposed location at Rongmahal, in North Guwahati. In a press meet, President of the Association Mrinal Kumar Choudhury said, “We have been protesting against this decision since June, and the bar association has expressed anguish over it. The association expressed its resentment over the unilateral follow-up measures taken by the state government after its decision by subsequently constituting a high-level committee comprising two Judges of the High Court along with the Advocate General of Assam and a handful of officials.”
