JORHAT: The 9th foundation day of Assam Women's University was celebrated on Sunday in the university premises in Jorhat. Vice Chancellor of Assam Women's University, Professor Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar inaugurated the programme by lighting the earthen lamps.

Registrar of Assam Women's University, Tapan Gohain (ACS) delivered the welcome speech and spoke about the recent developments in the university like allotment of a plot of land for its campus at Kaliapani, Teok and commencement of the meetings of the Board of Studies of the various departments of AWU.

Professor Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar in her speech said that Assam Women's University was unique because it was the only university meant exclusively for women in the entire north-eastern region of India. She also upheld a faithful picture of the present position of the university and how it was ready to embrace the philosophy of the NEP-2020 in near future.

Professor Debabrata Das, Vice Chancellor of Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management (ARGUCOM), Sivasagar in his speech as the chief guest in the function said that an institute should be judged on the basis of the quality of knowledge it fosters, not on the basis of jobs provided to the students and alumni. He said that one's activities should always be guided by ethics. According to him, one's goal should be the universal sustainability of mankind.

Dr. Mamoni Das, Dean of the Community Science, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat in her speech as the invited guest talked about importance of physical wellness and emotional wellness in terms of food. She discussed about the importance of healthy food, especially for the girls in the universities and colleges who would become future mothers.

The Assam Women's University Newsletter (Vol III, issue II) edited by Dr Suryya Kumar Chetia, Head of the Department (I/C) of Mass Communication and Journalism and Ankan Rajkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Assam Women's University was also released in the function.
