Assam: Workshop on Bagurumba dance concludes

KOKRAJHAR: To develop and uplift the Bagurumba traditional dance of the Bodos, ABSU, Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA) have been organizing workshops on Bagurumba traditional dance under their joint initiatives in different places across the State. As part of this initiative, a three-day workshop on Bagurumba dance was held at Kajalgaon in Chirang district from Sunday.

Several hundreds of dancers participated in the workshop who were imparted training on traditional dance through experts and instructors. The dancers were taught dance form and basic art of Bagurumba. The Bagurumba is the greatest traditional dance of the Bodos with dazzling traditional attires and beautiful art and steps.

Talking to media persons, the vice president of ABSU Kwrwmdao Wary said ABSU, BSS and DBHA jointly organized the three-day workshop on Bagurumba at Kajalgaon in Chirang aiming at preservation of basic art and development of distinct traditional dance of the Bodos. He said they had been looking for the uplift of Bagurumba traditional dance with uniformity and producing new dancers everywhere through experts and instructors.

Advisor of DBHA Rahendra Brahma said the workshop on Bagurumba was a joint initiative of ABSU, BSS and DBHA to further its importance among the coming generations to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Bodos. He said there had been conflict of uniformity in the dance form and there were little differences in basic art in Kokrajhar, Goalpara and others for which the DBHA had been trying to bring under one uniformity by rejuvenating the basic art with songs and steps. He also said the objectives of the workshop was to broaden Bagurumba with far reaching outlook.
