TINSUKIA: The Tourism Department, Assam, in association with Tinsukia Press Club and Babbler’s Inn, celebrated the World Tourism Day with photographic exhibition and felicitation at the Inn’s Batique Homestay premises in Tinsukia-Guijan Road on Wednesday.
The programme began with inauguration of a wildlife photographic exhibition by Prof Uttam Duarah followed by a welcome address by Dixita Phukan of Tinsukia Tourism Department. A good number of speakers, namely Amulya Khatoniar, Rana Changmai, Rishi Das, Chinmoy Sarma, Ranjit Dutta, Kamal Talukdar and Partha Sarathi Das spoke on different facets of tourism, including on the theme ‘Tourism & Green Investment’.
Among the invited speakers, Sailesh Sarma, a veteran global traveller, enlightened the audience with his vast experience. Rajesh Sinphoo, another invited speaker who is a pioneer in Sinphoo Tea Tourism, highlighted the gradual journey of Sinphoo tea from a remote corner of Enthem in Margherita to the global tea map.
In the felicitation programme, renowned environmentalist and tourism promoter, Jainal Abedin (Benu) was honoured by the Tinsukia Press Club with citation, seleng sadar and ethnic gamosa. Rajesh Sinphoo was felicitated for his outstanding contribution in the promotion of Sinphoo Tea worldwide.
JAMUGURIHAT: Considering the importance of the tourism industry in Assam and on the occasion of ‘World Tourism Day’ on Wednesday, an essay competition was organized by the Yuva Tourism Club of Tyagbir Hem Baruah College, Jamugurihat. Almost 30 students of various departments took part in the essay competition focusing their writing on the topic ‘Tourism industry of Assam’. On the occasion, principal Dr Ajit Hazarika, Vice-principal Dr Anju Chhetri, Dr Sudha Sharma and Dr Rajlaxmi Basumatary marked their presence. The programme was conducted by Plavan Bhuyan, Assistant Professor, Department of History and In-charge of Yuva Tourism Club, THB College.
