Assam: Youth Nabbed For Allegedly Attempting To Join ULFA-I

Nagaon: Assam Police apprehended a youth for allegedly making an attempt to join banned militant outfit ULFA-I in Assam's Nagaon here on Friday.

As per reports, the arrested youth was identified as Anarul Haque from Juria in the Rupohihat area of the district.

He allegedly attempted to join the insurgent outfit through social media sites. However, it is yet to be ascertained which page it was through which he made an attempt to join the militant outfit.

The police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, apart from the vigil on the ground, the Assam Police is also monitoring social media for pro-ULFA-I posts and blogs. In the last six months, the Assam Police contacted the Facebook (FB) authority and succeeded in having six pro-ULFA-I FB pages blocked.

Three other FB pages are being closely monitored, the sources informed.

On July 13 this year, declaring his decision to join ULFA on his Facebook page, Dilip Singh ultimately landed up in Silchar.

Frustrated with unemployment, Dilip, a youth from Dullabcherra area of Karimganj took to his social media page to declare that he had no other option but to join the militant outfit.

The post was noticed by the Cyber Cell of Assam Police. Though Dilip is a resident of the Karimganj district, an order from the DGP office reached to Silchar police to nab the youth.

Accordingly, Silchar police on Sunday arrested Dilip Singh from Dullabcherra, and later on Monday, he was produced to a court that sent the 32-year-old Dilip to judicial custody.

Notably, on July 19, a 22-year-old youth has been arrested by Kalaigaon Police in Udalguri district after he allegedly lent support to the proscribed separatist outfit ULFA(I) on social media.

According to reports, the youth identified as Pramod Kalita is a 4th-semester student of Tangla College and an inhabitant of Borengabari village at Kalaigaon.

He had made a comment on social media sites which was construed as support for the banned separatist outfit United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent).
