Assam's Fee Waiving Scheme For College Admission, Pragyan Bharti, To Continue In 2021-22

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has declared that the fee waiver scheme Pragyan Bharti in the state for free admission in educational institutions would continue in this year (2021-22).

As per the Pragyan Bharti scheme, students whose parents' income is less than Rs. 2 lakh can avail the facility of free admission in higher secondary (HS), degree(BA, BSc and BCom) and master degree (MA, MSc and MCom) courses.

The Assam Higher Education Department has said that the HS and BA, BSc and BCom students who have availed the fee waiver scheme earlier are also eligible to apply for their second and third year admission. Final year students of MA, Msc and MCom can also enjoy the benefits of the scheme.

Students, whose parents work under the state government or central government, are not eligible to avail the benefits under the Pragyan Bharti scheme. The students, who wish to avail the scheme's benefits, will have to submit an undertaking stating that their parents are not working under the state government or central government.

The annual income of parents of the students (who want to avail the fee waiver scheme) will have to be below Rs. 2 lakh. Students, whose attendance is less than 75 per cent, are not eligible to avail the scheme's benefits.

Private colleges, universities or any central university in Assam will not provide the benefits of Pragyan Bharti scheme.

The government institutes which provide benefits under the Pragyan Bharti scheme are –

Gauhati University, Guwahati

Cotton University, Guwahati

Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit & Ancient Studies University, Nalbari.

Women's University, Jorhat

Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh

Bodoland University, Kokrajhar.

Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai

Madhabdev university, Lakhimpur

Bhattadev University, Bajali

Majuli University of Culture, Majuli

Sati Sadhini Raijyik Viswavidyalaya
