Assam's Hriday Hazarika wins silver at men's U-21 10m air rifle at Khelo India Games

Hriday Hazarika from Assam has won silver in Air Rifle Men’s U-21 10m air rifle at Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati. Last year, Hriday had participated in the 50th Grand Prix of Liberation international shooting competition, bagged third position in the 10 metre air rifle (men) yesterday. The championship was held at Plzen in Czech Republic where the Assam shooter collected altogether 228.2 points. Local shooter Philip Nepejthal (252.0) bagged gold medal while Indian shooter Rudransh Patil secured silver medal in this category.

Earlier, Gangutri Bordoloi won gold for Assam in 60 kilometers cycling at the Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati. Bordoloi who is from Nagaon district of Assam won the second gold for the state. Pooja Basumatary from Assam won gold in Girl’s Under-17, 57kg category in judo. She bagged the first gold medal for the state. Upasha Talukdar won two more medals including one silver for Assam. She had won bronze on Friday. Upasha stood second in the U-17 Rhythmic Gymnastics (ball) event while won a bronze medal in the Rhythmic Gymnastics (Rope) category.

Around 6,800 athletes are expected to participate in the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games. The athletes will take part in a total of 20 sports with lawn ball and cycling being new additions to the Games. The opening ceremony took place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
