GUWAHATI: In a proud moment for Assam, the Iron lady and IPS officer of Assam Sanjukta Parashar has received the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Training.

On Thursday 21 April, Assam's IPS Officer Sanjukta Parashar was honoured with the reputed award during the celebration of National Investigation Agency (NIA) Day 2022.

On the 13th NIA Day celebration, the award ceremony was organized in the national capital Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Parashar receives the medal from Home Minister Amit Shah for her dedicated and remarkable service in fighting corruption.

Know who is Sanjukta Parashar:

Sanjukta Parashar is known popularly across the northeast and the country as the Iron lady of Assam. She has made history by becoming the first woman to get appointed as an IPS Officer in the state.

Parashar who is an IPS officer from the 2006 batch was born in Assam and did her post-graduation from JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) Delhi before moving to the University of Indonesia for her Ph.D. and MPhil.

The IPC officer has made remarkable achievements in her career and gained recognition for her dedication towards serving the people.

After securing 85th rank in the AICSE (All India Civil Services Examination), Parashar joined the Meghalaya-Assam Cadre. In 2008 she was posted in Assam's Makum as Assistant Commander and later appointed as SP in Assam's Sonitpur and led the team of CRPF jawans.

In her goal of fighting terrorism, the courageous officer did a total of 16 encounters in 15 months and arrested more than 65 dreaded militants by facing all dangers.

Notably, 42 years old IPS Officer has also made massive success in making a corruption-free nation by seizing tonnes of illegal arms and ammunition.

Earlier in 2018, Parashar was awarded the prestigious Ramani Gavoru award by the executive committee of the Ramani Gavoru Award Conferring Society of Assam's Simaluguri.
