GUWAHATI: A major meat processing company based in Assam has announced that it will supply packaged pork which it calls "A slice of Gahoree" to Lovlina Borgohain, Assam's Olympic medalist for a span of next five years as a token of appreciation for her efforts in bringing immense laurel to the state.
The company's top head said, "Congratulations to Lovlina for the historic achievement. We are very very proud of you! As a small token of love and appreciation, we would like to offer her our free packaged pork for next 5 years."
Further adding, he said: "We believe our product will help her become stronger with the continuous supply of quality proteins so that no one will be able to beat her in next Olympics."
It may be mentioned that, Lovlina Borgohain lost her semi-final bout against Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the welterweight women's boxing at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday and with this defeat, Lovlina settled for a bronze medal.
With this bronze medal now, Assam's Lovlina has now become the only the third Indian boxer after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom to win an Olympic medal.
The 23-year-old Lovlina, who started with Muay Thai, a form of martial arts, lost her semifinal bout to reigning world champion Busenaz Surmeneli.
It was a bout where Busenaz out-boxed Lovlina. But the Assamese boxer had already got her name in the list of Olympic medallists from India after defeating Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals. "I don't want to stop on bronze. I want to go for the gold. Medal is only one. That is gold," Lovlina had said during the media interaction last Friday. Though she failed to go for gold, Lovlina became the third Indian boxer to be on the Olympics podium after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom in 2008 and 2012 Olympics, respectively.
