GOLAGHAT: Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing along with Luit Educational Services Pvt. Ltd. in consultation and co-operation with the District Agriculture Office, Golaghat organized a two-day state-level seminar on scientific beekeeping under National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) in Golaghat district from January 3 to January 4. The seminar saw enthusiastic participation from beekeepers and farmers, with each day hosting around three hundred participants. The seminar received a distinguished inauguration on January 3, graced by the presence of Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and MLA of Sarupathar LAC Biswajit Phukan. Dignitaries including Director of Horticulture and Food Processing Tiranga Bharatiya Borah and Assistant Director of Horticulture and Food Processing Kumud Haloi lent their weight to the occasion.

Day-1 witnessed insightful presentations by Dr. Mukul Deka, Principal Scientist from All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Honeybees and Pollinators and Partha Pratim Gyanudoy Das, Scientist from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. Through interactive sessions and informative talks, they delved into the intricacies of scientific beekeeping, highlighting modern practices, honey production techniques, and strategies for managing apiaries effectively. In the second-day, Homeswar Kalita, Retired Deputy Director of Agriculture, shared his rich experience and expertise. Participants gained valuable insights on honey processing, value addition, marketing, crucial elements for establishing profitable beekeeping enterprises. A key highlight of the seminar was the release of a comprehensive souvenir on scientific beekeeping, specially prepared by the Directorate of Horticulture and Food Processing, Assam. This valuable resource will serve as a reference guide for aspiring and established beekeepers alike. Over the two days, the seminar sparked vibrant discussions, fostered peer-to-peer learning, and instilled a renewed enthusiasm for beekeeping as a sustainable and lucrative livelihood option. With a focus on scientific practices and modern techniques, the programme aimed to empower participants to unlock the full potential of this thriving sector, stated a press release.
