JORHAT: Dr Bijit Kumar Choudhury, Senior Scientist (Geologist and Computational Seismologist) of Geo Sciences and Technology Division (GSTD), CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam, has been selected under the Scientific High-level Visiting Fellowships (SSHN) programme for the year 2023 for a Short Research Trip to France (SRTF) in the senior researchers’ category funded by the French Institute in India (IFI) / the Embassy of France in India.

His application stood out in terms of the alignment of its scope of interest with some of the stakeholders’ strategic priorities and its comprehensive articulation of the project, as shown by the deliverables. He will be visiting the Institut de Physique du Globe (IPGP, University of Paris), Paris, France to work out a collaborative earthquake research project in the Earth Sciences and Astronomy research domain.

Out of the 554 applications received by IFI/Embassy of France, 51 were selected based on the excellence of the research project proposed and its importance for bilateral scientific cooperation, the reputation of the French and eminent Indian Higher Education and Research Institutions (HERI) involved, and alignment with the eligibility criteria and selection guidelines outlined in the call for applications. The applicants shortlisted are from the areas of Science, Earth Sciences and Astronomy, Mathematics and Statistics, Engineering and Systems, Information and Computer Sciences, Ecology and Environment, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business and Management.

The French Institute in India (IFI) is the educational, scientific, and cultural wing of the Embassy of France in India, and this initiative aims to nurture and strengthen Franco-Indian research networks.
