SARUPATHAR: Lovlina Borgohain bagged a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Celebrations are on their way as Borgohain will come back home in Barpathar's Baromukhia village in Dhansiri subdivision on August 17.

For her return, the Assam Government has started the construction work of the road to Borgohain's residence. Speaking to this correspondent, a local said, "This road is being built after many years after Lovlina bagged a bronze at Tokyo Olympics. Although she could not win the gold medal, her bronze was enough to bring a change in our village."

The people of Baromukhia village in Dhansiri subdivision of Golaghat district are eagerly waiting to accord a hero's welcome to their daughter Lovlina Borgohain who scripted history by clinching a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. There is an air of celebration in the village.

A local resident said, "It is a very proud moment for us as Lovlina will return home with a bronze. She is the first to win an Olympic medal from the State and in her success, the village sees glory." He also added, "There is no sports infrastructure and boxing ring here but her dedication and hard work have taken her to the world stage. We are hopeful that the government will put in place other infrastructure. We need facilities such as a hospital with beds, drinking water, a playground, gym and a boxing ring." Meanwhile, the villagers have made some plans, including a procession to accord a hero's welcome to Lovlina and to celebrate the moment of her arrival to her native village.
