GOLAGHAT: The activists of All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) staged a protest near the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday demanding ST status for the Ahom community and demanded the release of anti-CAA leaders who were arrested by the police.
Golaghat ATASU president Krishna Baruah, working president Pankaj Gogoi, and joint secretary Goutam Lahan slammed the BJP government for depriving the Ahom community of the ST status. The government had given assurance of ST status to the community before coming to power. But after coming to power, the BJP government forgot all promises, lamented the ATASU leaders.
The ATASU leaders warned the BJP government and demanded ST status for the Tai Ahom community or the government would have to pay the price in the forthcoming election in the Ahom community areas.
