GOLAGHAT: As Durga Puja is round the corner, tea garden workers are expecting a bonus. The Assam Tea Tribe Students Association (ATTSA), in view of the upcoming festivities, has demanded 20 per cent bonus for all the tea labourers in due time before the Durga Puja.

The activists of ATTSA Furkating unit, along with the garden workers of Chipahi Bari Tea Estate, staged a two-hour sit-in in front of tea estate office to demand 20 per cent bonus to tea garden workers before Durga Puja celebration.

ATTSA Golaghat unit secretary Anuj Kurmi and ATTSA Furkating unit president Akon Gowala said every year the management of tea companies betrayed the garden workers by not giving them their bonus in due time. Besides, all tea companies had been giving a poor percentage of bonus to garden workers. They also further said that this time the tea companies should provide 20 per cent bonus to workers else they would launch a massive agitation.
