GOLAGHAT/DHEKIAJULI/DEMOW: The activists of the Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) Golaghat district unit carried out a cultural protest at Rongajan in Golaghat on Tuesday demanding that Karam Puja should be declared as government holiday. In the protest, the assistant general secretary of ATTSA central committee, Jagdish Baraik criticized the BJP government and said that several times the government had assured to fulfil their demand. But till now the government had not done so.
"The BJP government has been playing with the sentiments of tea tribe people and using these people only for political gain," he said. ATTSA Golaghat unit president Subhash Barik and secretary Anuj Kurmi said that if the government did not declare Karam Puja as government holiday, it would face the consequences in the forthcoming election.
On the other hand, the Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA) on Monday staged a cultural protest in front of the office of the Circle Officer, Dhekiajuli Revenue Circle to raise their demand to declare the day of Karam Puja as a State holiday.
The supporters and members of ATTSA Dhekiajuli unit and Borsola unit participated the cultural protest programme which was started at 11 am and ended at 1 pm on Monday. The cultural protest programme include Jhumur dance among others. Leaders of the organization like Lakheswar Mirdha, president, and Basanta Sasoni, secretary of Sonitpur district ATTSA unit, took part in the protest. The ATTSA also demanded the government to look into the major problems faced by the tea tribe people.
The Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA) Demow branch also staged cultural protest at Demow Public Playground on Tuesday to demand that the day of Karam Puja should be declared as government holiday. The ATTSA activists shouted various slogans against the State Government and later submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Demow Circle Officer.
