DOOMDOOMA: Assam Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA) has expressed dissatisfaction over naming of the proposed model College at Doomdooma. In a press release, ATTSA said that the BJP led State Government had promised to set up 100 high schools in the tea garden areas besides adopting a resolution to establish one model college at tea-city of Doomdooma in response to the body's long standing demand.

But the body sounded peeved about not naming the proposed model College after Late Malia Tanti, the first MLA of Doomdooma from Tea-labourer Community. The tea body has therefore, announced a series of agitational programmes beginning with sit in on August 5 by all the branches under its Tinsukia District Committee to be a followed by a two hours sit in on August 7 in front of Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner's Office. If it doesn't receive any positive response from the Government by that time, then it threatened to launch even more severe agitational programmes like 72 hour-Tinsukia District bandh from August 10 onwards.

Meanwhile, the Government has appointed Dr Amar Jyoti Saikia, Head of Sociology Department, Margherita College, as Principal of the proposed model College to be established at Doomdooma. According to reports, Dr Saikia tendered his resignation at Margherita College on Friday and joined as Principal of the Doomdooma Model College at Tinsukia DC office on the same day. He is learnt to have taken charge from Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Geetali Dowarah.
