LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) on Monday initiated massive protest programme in North Lakhimpur town demanding the immediate resolve of long-pending problems of the tea tribe.
The organization, in association with Lakhimpur, Bihpuria, Naoboicha and Dhakualhana branch committees and tea Tribe people, staged a two-hour long dharna in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner's office in order to demand the immediate granting of tribal status to tea tribes, to accord land pattas to the people of tea tribes and to increase the daily wage of the tea workers uptoRs. 351.
While staging the protest programme led by ATTSA Lakhimpur district unit president in-charge Ashok Lakra and general secretary Chandra Gorh, the dignitaries of the organization expressed vehement resentment over the alleged lackadaisical attitude on the part of the State and Union governments towards resolving the long-pending issues of the tea tribe. They alleged that the State Government had patronized only vote bank politics going aside from the main issues of the community. The protesters rocked the environment with the resonance of multiple slogans in support of their demands while staging the protest. Later, the organization submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal demanding to resolve the three issues at the earliest.
