DEMOW: The All Tea Tribes Students' Association (ATTSA), Demow branch staged a protest in front of the Demow Circle Office on Friday demanding an increase in the daily wage of tea labourers to Rs.351.

The ATTSA, Demow branch activists shouted various slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Later, the activists submitted a memorandum to the Demow Circle Officer. In the memorandum, ATTSA Demow Branch stated that the present ruling government had promised to hike the daily wage of tea labourers to Rs.351 before election but till date no steps had been taken to increase the daily wage of the tea labourers.

The tea labourers have made a big contribution to the economic sector of the State through Tea cultivation but their daily wage remains Rs.167. In the memorandum, ATTSA Demow branch demanded to increase the daily wage of tea labourers to Rs 351 at the earliest.
