Atul Bora reviews progress of government schemes in Barak Valley

SILCHAR: Minister for Agriculture Atul Bora, on Friday, held a meeting in Silchar with officials of various departments to review the progress of work of various government schemes in Barak Valley. The meeting was held at the Cachar Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday afternoon. Officials of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and veterinary, dairy development, border protection and development departments of the Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of this valley were present.

Minister Atul Bora, who reached Silchar in the morning, took stock of the implementation process of various schemes in the three districts of the valley. In the meet, minister Bora inquired about the current implementation of various schemes including PM-Kisan, National Edible Oil Mission-Oil Date (NMEO-OP), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Millet Mission, Krishak Gyan Kendra Nirman Yojana in the three districts of Barak Valley.

He also reviewed the latest status of animal vaccination campaign under the department of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, availability of veterinary drugs, artificial insemination of cattle and other related aspects. After gathering information about the schemes’ work progress, Bora shared his reaction and also gave instructions to officials to ensure all the schemes are implemented properly and on time.

The minister said agriculture and livestock sector has immense potential to strengthen the economy of the State and create employment opportunities and that the Assam government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, is making continuous efforts to accelerate the development of these sectors and ensure the empowerment of farmers. The minister directed the concerned officers of animal husbandry and veterinary department, dairy development department to expedite the departmental works for farmers’ benefits. He said a milk processing plant with a capacity to produce 100000 litres of milk per day will be set up in Cachar district and asked officials of the dairy sector to pay special attention to the sector’s functioning. The minister, who also took stock of the current situation of the inter-state borders in Barak Valley, said he is optimistic that proper implementation of all the schemes (which were discussed at the meeting) would strengthen the socio-economic foundation of the valley, stated a press release.
