BOKAJAN: In a joint operation, the Karbi Anglong district Police and CRPF C/20 made a significant breakthrough after intercepting an Alto car bearing registration number AS 01 EF 0152 at Manja Tini Ali area and during a thorough search of the vehicle, the police team discovered 41 letterheads belonging to a newly-surfaced extremist organization called the United Peoples Front of Karbi Longri (UPFKL).
Consequently, two occupants of the vehicle identified as Rajesh Phangso (33), son of Dhonsing Phangso of Rongchijeng village under Jirikindeng police station of West Karbi Anglong and Sanjay Engti (32), son of Longsing Engti of Mutha Gaon village under Jirikindeng police station of West Karbi Anglong district were arrested in connection.
Police also registered a case vide Manja PS case no - 27/2023 under sections 120B, 384, and 511 of the IPC, along with sections 16, 17, 18, and 20 of the UA(P) Act and a detailed investigation was started.
Further investigations and interrogations were carried out during police remand, leading to startling revelations. The detained individuals disclosed that Sanjay Engti is the chief of the United Peoples Front of Karbi Longri (UPFKL). The extremist organization was recently formed, and they had procured arms and ammunition, which were hidden in the alto car.
Based on the information provided by the arrested accused, the authorities were able to recover one 9mm Pistol, along with a magazine and 4 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one .22 Pistol, along with a magazine and 5 rounds of .22 mm live ammunition, three HE 36 Hand Grenades and 2 detonators underneath the vehicle.
Further investigation is on to trace any additional arms and ammunition and identify other members or associates of the organization. This significant operation demonstrates the relentless efforts of the Karbi Anglong police to ensure the safety and security of the region.
