DONKAMUKAM: The activists of the regional political party, Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) along with Karbi Students' Association (KSA) and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA), on Friday observed 'Anti-State Repression Day', remembering the police and military force's alleged suppression of peaceful agitators who were demanding autonomous state for Karbi Anglong and NC Hills holding placards and banners at Kolonga, six km away from Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong.

ASDC leaders Sikari Kathar and Mensing Terang recalled the day in 1986 in Bokajan when the activists were marching in support of the bandh. Police allegedly lathicharged and fired at the activists and two of them were seriously injured.

"Since then, ASDC decided to observe the day every year as Anti-State Repression Day against police atrocities," the ASDC leaders said.
