Awareness campaign against indiscriminate use of pesticides in vegetables

NAGAON: The District Agriculture Office, Nagaon carried out a massive awareness campaign against indiscriminate use of pesticides in vegetables as well as other crops across the district throughout the month.

During the drive, the department concerned organized over 66 awareness campaigns in 22 agriculture development circles of the district and tried to make farmers as well as other locals aware of the safe use of pesticides and their need-based use in vegetables.

During an investigation carried out on samples collected from vegetable carriers on the way to Guwahati from Nagaon by special expert surveillance teams, it was found that especially in carrots, pesticides were used more in scale than the registered amount of pesticides, which could pose a threat to the health of human beings.
