DHUBRI: In a unique initiative, the high officers and its employees of Bongaigaon Regional State Bank of India led an awareness campaign to popularize the concept of organic farming in Chirang district under Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) recently. The Bodo youths who by learning the simple methods of organic farming has started growing paddy and vegetables.
The area was spotted by Regional Assistant Manager of SBI, Guru Pada Haldar while travelling from Bongaigaon to Kokrajhar district. Haldar while talking to The Sentinel informed that he observed that the vast land can be converted to a suitable cultivable land.
He decided to go for cultivation on this land, and after several rounds of talk and discussion with the staff and other departments, he finally decided to go fot organic based farming, which is the need of the hour.
"Chemical used in cultivation is damaging human organs, but in order to grow more and more paddy and vegetable, farmers are applying chemical fertilizers and it seems unstoppable," Haldar rued.
Haldar said that this trend should be stopped, and the aim of this project of organic farming was to create awareness among the young farmers as they would not only get more produces but also save the lives of people.
