SILCHAR: Taking all hazards in their stride, the brave jawans of Assam Rifles are going deep in the hills of Tamenlong isolated thinly inhabited tribal villages with the sole objective of making people aware of the symptoms of Covid 19 and the precautionary or preventive measures to be adopted. The drive begins in the early hours of the day and ends just in the afternoon. People, mostly men, as women shy away, in groups gathered at places on the way are given instructions how to stay fit, wearing mask, maintaining social distance and hygiene.
The jawans on awareness campaign know the difficulties also. The more the distant and isolated villages, more is the problem of convincing them. Their ignorance, simplicity and also taboos stand in the way. But, the will and determination of jawans do not leave their task half done. Gradually, the villagers come to realise and understand the painstaking jawans are their friends of a 'friendly force.' In a day long drive, around 130 villagers get the benefit of being aware to keep them away from the shadow of Covid 19, now sweeping across the country.
The campaign also covers the new strain of fungus, quite puzzling, as its very origin and cause or causes are caught in controversy due to diverse opinions of medical experts. Village folk are given basic knowledge. Most important, they are also motivated to go for vaccination. And the drive by Kadamtala Branch of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Hqs 21 Sector and Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) goes on in difficult and not so hospitable terrains.
