Awareness Meeting on Human Trafficking Held at Morakalong

MORIGAON: An awareness meeting on human trafficking was held on Saturday in the outskirts of Morigaon town at Morakalong. The awareness meeting was jointly organized by Morigaon Police and the CID. It was addressed by Surinder Kumar, DIG (CID).

After receiving input, a police team led by Superintendent of Police Swapnaneel Deka reached Guwahati Kamakhya Railway Station and rescued five girls and nabbed a woman who was taking them to Bihar. The girls were lured by a woman of the Morakalong area who promised to make them dance artistes in a mobile dance party named Sadabahar.

Later, under the initiative of Morigaon police and CID, two human traffickers - Anil Kumar and Dipak Kumar – were arrested and another 13 young girls were rescued from East Paragon district after getting the video footage of the arrested woman’s confession.

Immediately, Morigaon Police and CID held an awareness camp at Morakalong. DIG, CID, Surinder Kumar thoroughly reviewed the whole incident and completed the rescue operation successfully.
