Tezpur: An awareness meeting was held on the National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Program (IDDCP) here at DC’s conference hall on Friday, to create awareness on iodine deficiency disorders. The district-level awareness meeting was organized by NIDDCP, Assam in collaboration with Nabajeevan Sarothi NGO, North Guwahati. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Kulen Sarma, ADC (Health), Sonitpur. Inspector of Schools along with teachers, social welfare officers, and supervisors, principal, etc was present in the meeting.
The objective of the meeting was described by district media expert, Anjusree Phukan with a presentation. During the programme, Kulen Sarma, ADC, Sonitpur said that iodine is an essential micro-nutrient. It is required at 100-150 micrograms daily for normal human growth and development. Both insufficient and excessive iodine can result in thyroid disease.
