GOLAGHAT: An awareness meeting was held at Athkheliya on Wednesday under the initiative of Assam Millet Mission of the Golaghat District Agriculture Department.

The awareness meeting on millet farming was chaired by Athkheliya gram panchayat president Gunin Bora. On behalf of the Golaghat District Agriculture Department, District Nodal Officer, Assam Millet Mission, Shantanu Dutta delivered the welcome address at the meeting. During the meeting, he tried to bring awareness about the type of millet, importance of millet cultivation and the merits and benefits of millets to the present farmers.

Krishnakshi Borah of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khumtai, addressed the meeting as a content person. In his speech, he spoke to the farmers about the objectives of the Assam Millet Mission, the virtues of millets, business benefits, etc. After this, Saptarshi Chetia, Foresting Agriculture Development Officer, interacted with the farming community regarding the future of millet farming with the farming community.

Gunin Roy, an agricultural extension expert of Assam Millet Mission, provided technical assistance and advice on the technical aspects of the awareness meeting. Many leaflets related to millet farming were distributed among the farming community
