LAKHIMPUR: In line with the International Women’s Day, the Department of Women and Child Development, in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women under District Administration, Lakhimpur organized a cycle rally on Thursday morning in order to create extensive awareness on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, the flagship initiative of the Government of India. At 6:30 am, the rally was flagged off by Sumit Sattawan, the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur in the presence of officials of District Sports Office, Assistant Commissioners of the district administration, Circle Officers, officials of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women and the other officials of the district administration, Lakhimpur. A team from the Lakhimpur District Cycle Association took part in the awareness rally which was taken out from the Circuit House premises in North Lakhimpur town.

In connection with the initiative, the Department of Women and Child Development in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women under District Administration, Lakhimpur also organized a district level stakeholder’s capacity building programme under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” on the same day on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. The programme commenced from 11:00 am in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Officers and officials of the Education Department, Health Services, District Social Welfare Office and District Child Protection Office, Nehru Yuva Kendra, CWC attended the event.

In the event, representative of the secretary, DLSA, Lakhimpur, delivered lecture as resource person on legal provisions for women and girl child to protect their basic rights. On the other hand, Monjit Sharma, CDPO, Telahi delivered lecture on schemes and services available for women and children under the Department of WCD while Derajul Hussain, SEBA Secretary , Regional Office, Lakhimpur-cum-District Programme Officer, Samgra Siksha, Lakhimpur district delivered lecture on schemes and services available for adolescent girls under the Department of Education and preventive measures to reduce dropout. Lecture on schemes and services available for women and children under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, its response mechanism during emergency was delivered by Health & Medical Officer Dr. Queen Baruah.
