Awareness on scientific rearing and management of duck held at Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science

LAKHIMPUR: A day-long awareness training programme on ‘Scientific Rearing and Management of Duck’ was held at Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVS), AAU, Joyhing, North Lakhimpur on Friday with the participation of 25 farmers of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr UR Tamuli, Associate Dean of LCVS. In his speech the Associate Dean, while welcoming the participant farmers, stressed the importance of duck farming in the north-eastern States and particularly in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts. He also insisted upon the farmer to opt for the integrated farming system (duck-cum-fish farming) rather than duck farming alone.

Dr. Siddhartha Shankar Pathak, Dr. Kanak Ch Barman, Dr. Prasanta Boro Dr. Kandarpa Boruah and Dr. Dhirashree Choudhury took part in the event as resource persons. They discussed at length about the importance of duck farming, scientific housing and management, nutrition and feeding, economics and marketing, diseases and their remedies. For the practical knowledge on the subject matter, the participants were taken to the poultry farm maintained under the Department of Livestock farm complex of LCVS at Joyhing after the technical sessions as an exposure visit. The programme ended with the distribution certificates and vote of thanks by Dr Siddhartha S. Pathak, the organizing secretary.
