DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of the NSS unit of Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College (BRMGMC), Doomdooma and in collaboration with the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, an awareness programme on child rights issues was held in the college premises.
Dr Amarjit Saikia, Principal of the college inaugurated the programme. The Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia Shri Narsingh Pawar who is also President of the government body attended the meeting as chief guest while MLA Rupesh Gowala attended the programme as guest of honour.
About 400 participants comprising ASHA workers, members of the NGO and students of the adjoining colleges took part in the programme. ASCPCR member Phanindra Bujarbaruah explained the entire objectives and goals of the commission as well as the importance of the child rights issues.
On the other hand, ASCPCR Technical Director Dibyajyoti Sarma in his speech on the topic 'Role of stakeholders in the prevention of substance abuse,' explained the technical and legal aspects associated with preventing any physical and mental brutality against children below 18 years. In the next topic of the technical session on 'Role of stakeholders in prevention of child labour' he discussed the role of the all sections of the society in taking steps towards confronting, decreasing and preventing the issue of child labour. The last lecture was given by Rizwana Tasmina Hazarika, District Child protection Officer, District Child protection unit on the topic ' Role of stakeholders in child protection' where she spoke about the measures one can take to approach the child protection unit for bringing forth any activity done against the rights of a child and ensure a safe and secure life of every child in the society.
