Tamulpur: An awareness programme to control conflict between wild elephants and humans was held recently at Nagrijuli in the district of Baksa. It was organized by Baksa District Forest Office comprising Tamulpur and Kumarikata forest range.
The meeting was conducted by Baksa District Forest Officer Bhabesh Das where MLA of Tamulpur LAC, Emanuel Moshahary delivered welcome speech. In his speech, he said that space for the movement of wild elephants was decreasing day by day due to encroachment. “If we can’t create sufficient space for wild elephants then in the next 20-30 years, the terror of wild elephants will increase,” he said.
Participating as a resource person, Debojit Bora, secretary of Green Environment Task Force, gave some important tips on how to control and easily send back herds of wild elephants from populated areas and paddy fields. In presence of MCLA Dharmanarayan Das, Ranger Keshsb Brahma of Tamulpur Forest Range, Ranger Jiban Swargiary of Kumarikata Forest Range along with forest officials Mridul Rahman, Biren Boro, Moti Oja, experts from Aaranyak, and DFO of Baksa, Bhabesh Das appealed to the common people to cooperate with forest officials to control the wild elephant-human conflict. He suggested people not to be aggressive when wild elephants enter populated areas.
