TINSUKIA: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tinsukia organized a series of awareness and mobilization programmes on Model Millet Project to commemorate the International Year of Millets 2023, in collaboration with NABARD under its Farm Sector Promotion Fund (FSPF), aiming to mobilize and create awareness among farmers on how to cultivate millet. A total of 200 farmers from Ghurmora Chapori of Sadiya, Makum Kila of Margherita and Tingrai 1 No. Assomiya Gaon actively participated in the programme.

Addressing the participants, GD Bhuyan, Senior Scientist & Head KVK, Tinsukia, said, "Millet cultivation is an age-old practice in Assam. However, millets had over time disappeared from the Indian diet and from farmers' fields due to increased cultivation of rice and wheat." Highlighting the health benefits of millet, she said millets are considered 'nutri-cereals due to their high nutritional value and are known for several health benefits'.

Barun Biswas, DDM, NABARD, Tinsukia, discussed on Model Millet Project which has been undertaken by NABARD to enhance millet production and consumption in the State. The programme was attended by ADO, Marghrerita, scientists of KVK Tinsukia and officials from an NGO 'We for You'.
