Awareness programme on substance abuse organized in Tinsukia

A public awareness programme on substance abuse was held at the auditorium of Baruahula High School, Panitola in Tinsukia district on Saturday.

TINSUKIA: A public awareness programme on substance abuse was held at the auditorium of Baruahula High School, Panitola in Tinsukia district on Saturday. The programme, organized by Baruahula & Pakabam Panimudi VDP Committees in collaboration Gaon Pradhan, Boruahula, was actively participated by nearly 200 people that included villagers and a large number of students from Baruahula High School.

After Animesh Chetia, secretary, Baruahula VDP, laid down the objectives of the programme, the theme lecture was delivered by Abul Ali, Counsellor (ICTC, STI/RTI & LAC) Tinsukia Civil Hospital-cum-District Resource Person & Focal Person (ASACS) for Tinsukia district. He spoke at length on substance abuse (including tobacco and alcohol) and on the relation between HIV/AIDS & drugs abuse and their impact on society.

Speakers Pankaj Borah, SI, Panitola Police OP, spoke on drugs and drug abuse while Porag Buragohain, OC Tinsukia Police Station, dwelt at length on substance abuse and present scenario of Tinsukia and Boruahula area. The programme was attended by teachers and staff of Baruahula High School along with members of GP and VDP.
