DIBRUGARH: On World AIDS Day, SEWA, an apex NGO of the district, had organized an awareness programme here at the auditorium of Chah Mazdoor Sangha on Tuesday.

Around 200 community members and the public attended the awareness programme. Secretary of District Legal Service Authority, Rani Boro, Associate Professor, Microbiology Department, AMCH, Dr Partha Pratim Das, Associate Professor, Blood Bank AMCH, Dr Bikash Kr Singh, and District Program Coordinator of the TB Control Programme, Bishnu Gohain graced the occasion as guests.

As guest of honour, Rani Bora explained in details about Human Immunod eficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017. She also spoke in details about life skills. Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Dr Bikash Kr Singh spoke about the current HIV/AIDS status, prevention methods, ART Treatment and about blood transfusion.

The general secretary of SEWA, Altaf Hussain, District Officer of Project Ahana also attended the meeting. Earlier, director of SEWA, Arfan Hussain in his speech said that SEWA was extensively working with all stakeholders to achieve the '90-90-90' targets for 2020, which were to ensure that 90 per cent of people living with HIV are aware of their status; 90 per cent of people diagnosed with HIV are receiving treatment, and 90 per cent of all people receiving treatment have achieved viral suppression. This target will make a path to end AIDS by 2030, he said. A cultural programme was also organized.
