LAKHIMPUR: Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Dr Jeevan B has appealed to all who develop any COVID-19 symptom or fever to get tested before their condition turns serious.
The DC made this appeal to the people of the district while flagging off two awareness rallies on COVID-19 pandemic organized by the District Health Society in North Lakhimpur town on Wednesday. Amid the alarming spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the district, these awareness rallies were organized in view of sensitizing the people to initiate the due measures to check the spread of the pandemic.
Both rallies were flagged off at the office campus of the Joint Director of District Health Services and one of them created public awareness on COVID-19 proceedings along the North Lakhimpur Municpal Board Office road while the other rally did the same proceeding along the District Library road.
"Ensuring the responsible behaviour of everyone is the need of hour now and more important than ever in social contacts. By acting responsibly, we protect ourselves as well as other persons from the most vulnerable groups. Chronic patients, persons with weak immune systems and individuals with underlying conditions, who may suffer the worst consequences of coronavirus infection, are still particularly at risk. The restriction of social contacts, recommended movement in public spaces and strict compliance with the required minimum physical distance between people continue to remain key protective measures aimed at reducing the risk of infection. So, I appeal to all concerned to co-operate with our healthcare employees and workers to minimize the pandemic threat and to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol strictly," the DC added.
He said that some people had to face the worst consequences due to coronavirus infection as they had come to undergo institutional medical treatment when their condition turned critical. Under such circumstances, the DC appealed to all to stay alert and to come forward for tests without wasting time as soon as they develop any symptom of the infection.
In the programme, DC Jeevan B released the Handbook of COVID-19 Care carrying the message of the maxim 'Health is Wealth', published by the Lakhimpur district administration and National Health Mission, Lakhimpur. He laid stress on taking the handbook to every household of the district. He further added that the District Health Department would launch a massive drive to classify the vulnerable group of people, patients with hypertension and diabetes, to protect them from coronavirus infection. Joint Director of District Health Society, Dr Mahendra Das, SDMO (HQ) Dr Hemanta Dutta, DPO Dr. Udayan Bordoloi, members from the Social Welfare Societies, media persons, Health Department and NHM staff, ASHA and Anganwadi workers took part in the awareness rallies.
