Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programme organized at Panika Kala Kendra, Makum

TINSUKIA: With the theme ‘Achievements @ 75: Transforming Lives and NABARD’s contribution in Assam’ a grand Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) programme was organized at Panika Kala Kendra, Makum on Friday. The event hosted by District Development Manager (DDM) of NABARD Barun Biswas witnessed active participation of around 50 members from various Self-Help Groups (SHGs) operating in Tinsukia District.

The programme was addressed by Viswanath Jha from LDM-PNB, and GM-DICC, Pranob Kataki. Barun Biswas delivered an enlightening presentation that shed light on the Genesis, Vision, and Mission of NABARD. He highlighted NABARD’s journey, which commenced on July 12,1982, initially with Vikash Volunteer Vahini (VVV) programmes and later transformed into Farmer’s Clubs (FCs) and eventually evolved into Farmer’s Producer Organizations (FPOs).

During the event, Biswas, highlighted NABARD’s nationwide interventions, including the SHG-bank linkage programme, watershed development, and support for small farmers through joint liability groups. He emphasized the significance of promoting millet cultivation for sustainable agriculture and underscored NABARD’s role in capacity building through skill development programmes.

Additionally, NABARD’s efforts in climate change projects, promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations, and establishment of rural hats were applauded for their positive impact on rural communities, fostering economic growth and empowerment. He also appreciated the invaluable support and collaboration from the district administration and all line departments in Tinsukia district. He shed light on the diverse range of on-going projects, such as watershed, ITDP, RIDF initiatives, Bio floc fish farming, and various skill development programmes like MEDPs, LEDPs, and SDPs. Additionally, he mentioned the establishment of Rural Hats, Rural Marts, Mobile Vans, and the vital role played by Financial Literacy Centres (CFLs) in empowering the rural population with financial knowledge and awareness. The event served as a platform to showcase NABARD’s collective efforts and impactful interventions in promoting sustainable rural development and economic growth.

LDM, Viswanath Jha, assured his unwavering support to the SHGs for credit linkage during the event. He emphasized the importance of Nandini Social Welfare Society (NSWS) in providing continuous support to these SHGs and encouraged them to submit project proposals for loans in banks. His commitment to assisting them in their financial endeavours was evident and he assured them of his continuous support throughout their journey.GM-DICC, Pranob Kataki, expressed his wholehearted support to the community and SHG members during the event. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing assistance and guidance to the SHGs in their development initiatives.
