DIBRUGARH: The situation in the Baghjan oil well blowout remained the same on the seventh day on Wednesday. As gas is flowing uninterruptedly from the well since May 27, OIL's day-to-day updates on the incident revealed that safety and security measures were monitored round-the-clock at the incident site by the OIL working teams in order to protect the environment and life and properties of the surrounding villagers during Well Control Operation.
OIL fire service with mutual aids is stationed 24X7 at the site since the blowout for continuously water jacketing the well to avert any eventuality. Air and water quality is being monitored at constant intervals at strategic points and layers of condensate deposition in and around the site are being picked up immediately.
Meanwhile, a Singapore based firm, M/S Alert Disaster Control has been mobilized and two experts are expected to reach the site on June 4. Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Amarnath, who reached Duliajan, participated in the review meeting held at the DC office, Tinsukia with State Tea Tribes Welfare Minister Sanjay Kishan, Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Pegu, SP (in-charge), Tinsukia, DFO, Wildlife Division, officials from Assam State Pollution Control Board, Dibrugarh and senior officials from OIL. Joint Secretary Amarnath also visited the disaster site on Wednesday.
