Sivasagar: The communication between Sepon-Sunpura, which broke down due to collapse of the bridge over Desang River, has once again been restored. The bailey bridge built over the river was opened to facilitate the transportation of public.
Since January 16 of this year, people of the greater Sepon-Sunpura area of Sivasagar district had been affected due to the sudden breaking of the bridge into two parts, which is the only route of communication between Sepon and Sunpura.
On the 53rd day since the bridge was collapsed, the bailey bridge built over the river was opened for the public by Revenue Minister and Mahmora MLA Jogen Mohan, in presence of Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain, former MLA Kushal Duwari, officials of ONGC and PWD and locals. The bridge has been built by Mekong Engineering & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.
The people have conveyed their gratitude to Mekong Engineering & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Revenue Minister and Mahmora MLA Jogen Mohan and Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain for responding to their demands to facilitate the communication at the earliest.
The bailey bridge has a carrying capacity of 6 tons, a speed limit of 20 km per hour and no vehicle can park on the bridge. These instructions have been issued by the Assam Public Works Department.
