PATHSALA: Women of Bajali came out on the road to register their protest against the opening of a liquor shop-cum restaurant at Choukhuty in Bajali district.

The villagers protested against the liquor shop as youngsters of the area were allegedly getting addicted to alcohol. The protesters also locked the liquor shop during the protest.

Later, a team of excise department along with Pathsala police came to the spot to take stock of the situation. "We will remove the shop from this peaceful area anyhow," said a woman.

Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) joint secretary Mridul Talukdar said, "The liquor shop is near a government school. This is having a bad influence on students. Officials concerned should respond and remove the shop at the earliest."

Bishwajit Ganguli Pathsala Anchalik secretary of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), said, "Liquor shop owners are violating the rules to make money. The liquor shop is placed between Choukhuty Canara Bank and a government school. Officials are also supporting them in this aspect. Authorities should look into the matter."
