Balijuri Kendriya Bihu concludes

The golden jubilee celebrations of Balijuri Kendriya Bihu that was held with a two-day programme on May 5 and 6 concluded here on Saturday. The Bihu witnessed an assimilation of the Assamese and Gorkha community people who celebrated the 50th edition of Bihu with pomp and grandeur.

JAMUGURIHAT: The golden jubilee celebrations of Balijuri Kendriya Bihu that was held with a two-day programme on May 5 and 6 concluded here on Saturday. The Bihu witnessed an assimilation of the Assamese and Gorkha community people who celebrated the 50th edition of Bihu with pomp and grandeur. The first day programme began with prize distribution ceremony with Balbir Singh Gurung in the chair followed by felicitation programme.

Five hundred elderly persons of the greater Balijuri area, on the northern part of Jamugurihat were felicitated with a citation and gamosa. The open session was attended by Rajib Barua, senior advocate of Guwahati High court, Moti Kumar Newar, executive member of GDC (Gorkha Development Council), Bhaskar Jyoti Saikia, officer-in-charge of Itakhola police station. Kishor Dahal, working president of the Bihu celebration committee conducted the proceedings while Lakhi Kanta Bora, president of the organizing committee chaired the open session of the first day programme. Bhuban Maidali, inaugurated the first day cultural programme. Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika graced the concluding session today as a chief guest and praised the timely initiative undertaken by the organizers for strengthening the bond of brotherhood among people. Artiste from both the Assamese and Gorkha community unitedly performed chorus, Aainam, Dihanam, Maruni dance.
